A Light Left On by May Sarton and Romantics by Lisel Mueller are responsible for the butchery that follows.
A Light Left Off
By Doc Walton, who doesn't deny his guilt.
We returned in the dark of night
because there is
no light of night
except for the moon
and those we leave on
which on this night
we had forgotten to do
so there was no light
to show us the things we love.
No light to shine on favorite chair
or bed and books
or things we left just so
but most of all
no light on furry heads
who greeted us with love and joy
all the same
and even more
when I flipped the switch.
Rowmantics
By Doc Walton, who admits you can't stop him, you can only try to contain him.
The affair between Sherlock Holmes and Irene Adler
has their biographers
in a bit of a tizzy
over what really went on
during their brief encounter
so many years ago.
Was there really a measurable
love between the two
or was it simply a case of respect
between worthy opponents?
That they were seen a-boat
on the river,
he with oars, she with parasol,
would leave one to surmise
that something other than
the hunt for Moriarity
was afoot.
